What I was actually there for:

Kinja'd!!!

It’s a lot bigger than I expected. But loads of space because of it. The back seat is huge, the seats are comfortable, infotainment is snappy. The price is the best out of all the new cars I’m interested in. The Outdoor trim seats material is a little strange, but I can live with it  Couldn’t test drive it because they literally just got it, but the salesman said to give him a call after a snow storm and we’ll go out and have some fun. That's how you sell me on something.

I should see if my local dealer has these yet. I want to test drive a turbo and see how much bigger these actually feel since it sounds like the rear leg room is much improved.

I see that dealership has been plowing most of its profitability into signage!

The dba makes it awesome. It’s like tomorrow there will be no Subarus and just used 90s Hyundais.

Cool Outback, I still need to drive a 2020 to see how much better they are now.

They’re both good cars in different ways but TBH they’ve kept the aging 8.2:1 CR EJ25 for so long I don’t recommend them any longer. While they still have a massive aftermarket base you can get a lot better powertrains in power economy and reliability with other makes just as easily. STIs are also tuned to understeer like pigs from the factory, and their steering feel and cabin position are fair to middling.

Although apparently a new one is due around 2022 MY, so there’s that I guess.

I wanted a manual WRX but ended up getting a 2017 forester with 52000kms in april.

Since i drive 200kms per day, the automatic forester was a more responsable choice, since my wife doesn’t drive stick, cheaper to insure, cheaper maintenance, cheaper to fuel......

now i’m at 69800kms and so far i still like it.  i would of liked an outback too, but they more expensive than my forester was.

At 30 years old:  “Roof rails kinda look like a wing, I guess.”

I found it to be pretty nimble given the size. All the rear leg room comes at the cost of trunk space, though.

That’s slightly disappointing, but I think I’d rather have the extra leg room. I find sitting in the back of my parents ‘09 a bit too cramped for my liking.

I went through something similar:

20: I want an STI!!!

21: I can only afford a WRX, but it’s still awesome!

22: I can’t afford to insure a WRX!

30: I want something that gets 40 MPGs and has cheap insurance!!!

If you ignore the body roll they actually handle pretty well for what they are (a lifted station wagon) .

With good tires they’re a riot in the snow.

I measured 72 inches from the tailgate the the back of the front seats in both the Outback and the Grand Cherokee. When I threw a sample of my camping gear in the back of each (with the rear seats up) I found that the JGC had maybe five extra inches in depth (plus some height). The JGC felt a bit more tight in the rear seats, but not much. This is where I draw my conclusion.

I’ve never not had fun in a 3 pedal WRX or STi. I’ve owned one of each and regularly drive a friends. I will say the earlier cars are the most fun. The blob/hawk eye cars feel faster.

I got rid of a ‘17 STI to buy a ‘12 Camaro SS, the STI is definitely a sharper canyon car but the Camaro is a much happier daily in a hilly area with CA 91 pump gas.

I skipped some steps in there, for me it goes :

Also 22: I sold the WRX and bought a liter bike because I can go WAY faster for way less (I think the insurance company just assumes you die automatically) and I got a free cargo van!

24: Cargo van got totaled, I’m going to buy a huge, excessive diesel truck!

25: The 08 recession is in full swing and fuel is crazy, im dumping the truck for a Cobalt!

30: Cruze!

35: I have a house, garage, and my coworker is selling her clapped out Volvo. Oh look, I found some money between the couch cushions, bring on the lingonberries and ABBA!! !

ABBA signals the end stage, just before “how much do used C4-5 Corvettes really go for nowadays?”

Kinja'd!!!1

The ABBA thing was a bit of an exaggeration, but I do love me some swedish death metal. In fact, depending on how long I keep the car, I am toying around with an idea of combining my favorite metal band’s logo with the Volvo symbol for a custom front emblem.

The C5 Corvette discussion was had very recently in the office, but for a coworker of mine who, much like our friend CB, is apparently 25 going on 62. I’m actually more interested in a Jeep Wrangler as my next project. I feel like the Corvette thing is more 40's.

Interesting how the Swedes seem to have a thing for death metal.

Give it time and the chance for your hairline to recede. C7s may come into your range at about the right time . :p

I think it has a lot to do with the climate - months on months of twilight in a bleak, frozen hellscape tend to make one a little ornery. That and Swedes tend to be tempermental - super jolly and happy-go-lucky, but if you piss them off they go 0-60 faster than Koenigsegg Regara. I think the metal is a stress reliever. (Source: am 1/4 Swede).

Also, Corvette timing is pretty spot on, though if that's the case, my hairline needs to slow its roll.
